Safety
For the convenience and safety, we recommend the
following tips for you to enjoy your stay to the
fullest:
- Request a hotel room near the elevator and away from any
renovation work. It is very useful if you are carrying a lot
of luggage and no porter service is available.
- Request for a ladies floor if you are traveling alone (selected
hotels).
- The "Please Make Up Room" sign tells everyone
you are not in. Use it only when necessary.
- Conversely, the "Do Not Disturb" sign can make
the room seem occupied (it is handy if you have to leave
expensive items inside).
- Lock small valuable items in the front desk safe deposit
box. If your bag is stolen from the hotel, request
the management to search for it. Most hotel robberies care
committed by staff, and many properties especially overseas.
Do not allow employees to leave with packages; thieves
take the money and dump the rest.
- Stand near the elevator buttons with your back to the
wall; if you are threatened, push all the buttons at
once.
In Europe, single room is really meant for single person
traveling and only single bed is provided (usually very
small).
- For some hotel chains/motels, double-double bed is provided
thus it is good for family with young children (no roll away
bed is required).
- Most of the 2-3 star and some 4 star hotel properties
in Europe do not come with air conditioning as the
temperature in summer months might not be to the extreme especially
in UK. Please check before you make any hotel reservation.
- For budget travelers, sharing toilet facilities may save
you a couple of bucks
